In an interview with Forbes, President Donald Trump said that while he thought the report that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson calling him a “moron” was “fake news,” he suggested “comparing IQ tests” to settle the score between the two men. When asked about the comment this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that it was clear the president was joking and that reporters needed to get a sense of humor.
According to a report filed by CNN senior White House correspondent Jim Acosta, Sanders wasn’t telling an accurate story when she said Trump was just joking. In fact, per Acosta’s source, the president really would like to see his IQ score compared to Tillerson’s and he’s extremely angry over the thought that his secretary of state personally insulted him and his intelligence.
“This is what the source said to me, quote, they knew he was pissed that people found out he called him a moron and he spouted out about the IQ test because he was mad,” Acosta told host Erin Burnett. “The White House knows it was not a joke.”
Acosta noted that ran contrary to what Sanders said at the briefing before moving on to discussing Trump’s feud with Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN). Highlighting that Sanders said at today’s presser that you’re entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts, Acosta dinged the administration by saying those comments came from the same “White House that once talked about alternative facts.”
